Those fall farthest who first fall up
The Cabinet of Atrocities was the personal project of Denise Cheval. It was a work she continued to expand throughout her life, even while concurrently collaborating on the vast Encyclopedia of Everything. She regarded it as “a burlesque of the world,” inspired as it was by her collection of rare replications made with materials from a local arts and crafts supply store. The result is an arbitrary collection of thoughts that allude to the infinite ways of organizing a diseased mind. “It will be,” Cheval wrote, “an intellectual warehouse for the curious of all future generations, should they survive the future.”
